Pfnbx is a scam DApp that claims to offer crypto mining and trading functions but is actually designed to steal your crypto.
Connecting to the DApp gives it unlimited access to any tokens contained in your crypto wallet meaning the fraudsters can syphon them away into wallets controlled by them.
Victims of this scam are often introduced to the DApp by someone they’ve met online and possibly formed what they think is a romantic relationship with.
After a while the conversation will turn to crypto investing, and the victim will be guided through the process of setting up a crypto wallet, if they don’t already have one, depositing cash and connecting to the DApp.
It might appear as if they’re making a trading profit to start with, but they’ll soon see their funds disappear.
How to spot the Pfnbx scam
Differentiating between scam apps and real ones can be difficult especially if you’re unfamiliar with the cryptosphere.
However, there are several things which reveal Pfnbx to be a scam. They include:
- The claim that profits can be made by mining USDT when in fact this crypto isn’t created by mining.
- A very new domain name.
- No information about the developer or any contact information.
- No official social media profiles or other channels.
- The promise of large profits over a short space of time.
- Numerous reports from people who say this DApp is a scam.
- Fake fees for levelling up, all designed to extract more money from victims.
- A Domain Authority (DA) of 1 – the lowest possible.
Tracing crypto scammers can be extremely difficult, but you should still report what’s happened to your exchange and the police.
There are also private companies that might be able to help which I’ve written about here.
