Yesterday, Thursday (3/20/2025), a Florida, USA-based Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) provider company "Volatility Shares" has launched two Solana futures-based ETFs, namely Volatility Shares Solana ETF (SOLZ) and Volatility Shares 2x Solana ETF (SOLT) and will be traded on Nasdaq.
The SOLZ ETF was launched by Coinbase's derivatives division which is designed to track the price movements of Solana futures contracts, while the SOLT ETF offers double leverage exposure (2x) so that it will make double profits for investors from Solana price movements.
Although not a spot ETF, the ETF (SOLT) and ETF (SOLZ) are considered a form of implicit recognition from the SEC that Solana (SOL) is one of the major altcoins that can be categorized as a commodity, futures products are often the first step before Spot investment products are approved by the SEC.
Impact of Solana Futures ETF
The launch of futures products is predicted to increase volatility and also make it easier for large institutions to short-sell and in the long term it is predicted that SOl will be bullish.
The launch of Solana futures ETF will encourage institutional adoption of SOl so that demand and liquidity will increase and reduce the market capitalization gap to Ethereum.
