Getting more miles out of your fuel tank is possible by just getting into a few simple habits and making minor adjustments which over time will have a big impact both in your car and your wallet. For example, by keeping your tires inflated to the proper level recommended by the manufacturer, you are going to decrease the friction between the rubber and the road and hence save more fuel. If this is not enough, then get rid of unnecessary roof racks or any other heavy objects from the trunk that only create drag and consumes lots of gas on the way. In fact, some more ways that one can conserve fuel are things like combining errands in a single trip and choosing the most efficient route possible which means probably not driving at peak times and avoiding stop-and-go driving. This type of driving results in energy loss when you have to stop at red lights and then speed up to reach the next one. However, it is still possible to use less fuel by gently stepping on the gas pedal and anticipating the stop by coasting to the traffic light, rather than hard braking and then hard acceleration thereafter. Moreover, try to use the cruise control feature while on the highways to keep a constant speed and refrain from accelerating and decelerating frequently. The best way to use a manual gearbox is to shift the gears as early as possible and to stick to a higher gear that still allows you to drive comfortably. Always turn the key and shut the engine down for a minute or more instead of running it, and warm it with a drive instead of utilizing more gas to rev it up while it is still. To keep the engine clean with fuel and oil, it is mandatory to change the oil filter, the air filter, and to examine the plugs at regular intervals. The engine will not only get the right amount of fuel but also burn it more cleanly if it is properly maintained. Also, set your air conditioning to a lower temperature but open the car windows at low speeds, if necessary, and operate the seat heaters and the steering-wheel heater if warmth is desired while not increasing the cabin temperature. In the meanwhile, just driving when it is cooler can help reduce the power needed for the engine and the AC as well.
