Dual Token System (QUAI/QI)​

Quai implements a dual token system with two distinct transaction models. The QUAI token is based on the account model, supporting EVM-compatible smart contracts and programmable DeFi applications. In contrast, the Qi token operates on a UTXO model with fixed denominations, ensuring cash-like privacy properties by preventing address reuse.

Scalability Through Sharding​

The network’s architecture comprises multiple interoperable chains, enabling high throughput of over 50,000 transactions per second without compromising decentralization. It integrates horizontal sharding and self-organized subnets for vertical and horizontal scaling, accommodating the demands of a growing user base of both humans and AI agents.

Proof-of-Entropy-Minima​

PoEM uniquely enables hierarchical coordination of sharded blockchains. PoEM with workshares is in Nash equilibrium, unlike vanilla Proof-of-Work, thus eliminating selfish-mining. The process of achieving consensus using PoEM is deterministic, ensuring that all data within the network resolves to the same canonical head. This innovative approach also shifts the consensus mechanism’s focus from multi-round consensus to single-shot communication. PoEM has shown a 28.5% improvement in confirmation delay and a 16.3% improvement in throughput in a single chain setting. However, PoEM dramatically outperforms all current systems by enabling a chain with many shards.
